The Little Black Desk Academy officially launched on Wednesday, February 14th. During our launch week, I hosted 7 events over 4 days. I loved the intimate conversations the women had with our presenters!
I loved the casual feel. Many times as entrepreneurs we are secluded in our home offices with nothing but our laptops so being able to TALK to people was great and I loved being able to ask questions that were specific to my business.

Wednesday morning, I started with a virtual tour of the Academy. I discussed why the Academy was created, who we serve, and how to get the best results from our membership. I showed how to take advantage of the many features of the Academy so members may have deeper conversations about the topics which matter most to them and connect with women they admire in business.
Then Hannah Robinson shared her story of How Passion Fuels Her Brand and Relationships. My favorite takeaway from her interview is how she incorporates “trinkets” into the brand work she creates for her clients. It is such a personal and meaningful way to enhance the client experience!!
She really considers her clients and the things that resonate with them personally. I believe I can find more opportunities like that within my own work that might gain a greater buy-in from my clients.

Thursday morning, we opened with a discussion about the Challenges of Entrepreneurship. The conversation was vulnerable and encouraging as many women share their struggles with confidence and mindset. We also enjoyed some good laughs thanks to Bisola’s positive spirit!
Overall it was really encouraging to hear the pain points of other women in business and how they navigate them in their business.

It can be a battlefield between encouraging and discouraging thoughts as an entrepreneur. You have to focus your energy on the positive and not waste time in the negative!
It is healthy to have a little bit of chip on your shoulder. That chip can be the fire we need to change, work harder, and to excel in our work.
Our time is limited as an entrepreneur. Do not get caught in the good or the bad. Keep moving forward!
Thursday afternoon, I led a discussion on How to Better Love Your Customers. This means asking for their feedback. Their feedback is crucial to your business so you can better serve them. I shared why customer satisfaction surveys are important, how to obtain feedback including sample questions, and additional best practices.
I should be creating a short survey for potential clients who did not book me. The results will show me what I’m doing wrong if I’m continuously losing my ideal client and will show me if I’m doing all of the right things if I am losing clients that are not ideal.

The following Monday, Jenny Kincaid Julian, shared all her tips for How Relationships Impact Your Brand. I took a full page of notes. Her tips are the foundation for building and sustaining relationships both personally and professionally. I also loved being reminded of habits I had done previously in my career and want to implement again.
Too many times we dismiss networking or take it for granted when it should be a part of our business development strategy.
You must work to stay top of mind with your connections and in your relationships. How can you help them? Was there an article or resource they may find of value? Can you send them a note congratulating them on an achievement?
Monday afternoon, I discussed How to Get Customer Reviews to Sell Your Brand. I shared why timing and asking the right questions are important to getting accurate reviews for your business.
So much of the information about reviews, I did not know and that’s extremely valuable to me.2/19/2018 3:07 PM – Event Survey Respondent
We wrapped up our launch week on Tuesday with Karianne Wardell. She discussed How to Create an Engaging Brand with our attendees. I loved hearing the women share their specific challenge and Karianne talk them through the situation.
I am thrilled with the conversations we had over the past week and grateful for the women who took time out of their day to show up!!
We would love to have you join us at our next Academy event.
Want to share your experience?Join the Academy to continue this conversation with women like you.
